Hello, I am Saloni Saraswat. I am a sophomore at Barrington High School and an Elite Target Archer and a member of
- USA Archery Junior Olympic Archery Development (JOAD) program Since 2013
- USA Archery North Regional Elite Development (RED) Team (2020 and 2021)
- North Central Elite Archers (NCEA) Team
I am a multi-year podium finisher in IL State Championships including two times as Outdoor State champion and one-time Indoor State Champion as well as 2021 IA outdoor JOAD state champion. I also compete in National Archery Target Championship and United States Archery Team Qualifying Series Events (USAT). I rank 22nd in Cadets Female Division by the USA Archery National Ranking System (as of September 1, 2021).
Why I started Youth Program
I joined Kishwaukee Archers in 2020 as a member. I usually come to the Kishwaukee Archers club twice a week to practice. During practice, I hardly see kids there for Archery practice. In January 2021 I participated in the Kids league. There were many kids in the league. So, I wonder why I do not see them here for the rest of the year. I learned that there wasn’t any youth archery program at Kishwaukee. During the league, I talk to a few kids and parents. They showed an interest in joining the year-round program. It made me think about starting a youth program at the club.
Archery as a sport has taught me so much more than just how to shoot arrows. It has allowed me to compete all over the USA but more importantly, it gave me a new perspective to learn valuable life skills like discipline, perseverance, confidence, time management, patience, problem-solving skills, and sportsmanship.
I strongly believe in, "Knowledge shared is knowledge squared". It is a way to give back to the community and gives me joy when I can help someone learn from my skill and experiences. This inspired me to introduce the Youth Archery program at Kishwaukee Archers and teach kids archery.
With permission and encouragement from my parents, I proposed my idea to the Board Members of Kishwaukee Archers. They approved my idea of starting a youth program, and promised to support the program, and promote archery to the young generation. I greatly appreciate the Board Members for their support. I will be forever thankful to Randy Rutledge for unconditional support and help from day one, this program wouldn’t be possible without him. Thank you, Randy, and all the board members of Kishwaukee Archers.
